Monks belonging to the 969 movement in Pathor Keela, Akyab have announced that they will hold daily rallies starting from Sunday against what they say is the increased dominance of Muslims in Arakan.
The declarations comes amidst increasing confidence gained by the group as protests by Buddhist nationalist movements have convinced the government to suspend voting rights granted recently to Rohingya Muslims.
The mass protests have emboldened the 969 movement as the group has been able to mobilise thousands of supporters in the last few days.
Muslims meanwhile are afraid that the Buddhist nationalist protesters organised by groups such as 969 will carry out another bout of ethnic cleansing in the region.
The 969 movement has been at the forefront of anti-Muslim violence in the country that has killed hundreds since 2012.
