Fire in Maungdaw North village
By Burma Times
Around ten houses in Balukhali of Taimbru, Maungdaw North caught fire on Wednesday, according to our local correspondent.
The day before, some Rakhine men were throwing containers, often with slingshots on roofs of these houses. Locals however did not recognise the threat and thought the men who had come to purchase agricultural products were just teasing the Muslims.
However their suspicions were aroused after the houses caught fire. Locals are now checking the roofs of every hut to make sure there are no strange substances.
It is not clear how the authorities will respond to this incident. Earlier under similar circumstances, government has blamed victims for setting fire on their own houses to discredit the 969 movement and other nationalist groups.
