Maungdaw — During a raid on December 4, 2016, as usual, the Burmese soldiers indulged in various types of human rights violation targeting the Rohingya villagers at ‘Kyauk Chaung’ in northern Maungdaw. From our reporters on the ground we have come to know that the men in uniform committed sexual violence there.

Details of the abuses in the village are yet to come in. Here is an incomplete list of the Rohingya females from the hamlet of Ywa Thit in Kyauk Chaung who turned victims of the sexual violence during the December 4 raid:

  • GJ (45), d/o NI
  • An 18-year-old daughter of NI
  • DR (19), d/o FA
  • JH (19), d/o AJ
  • A 16-year-old daughter of AH

In ‘Kya Gaung Taung’ village locally known as ‘Rabailla’, the Burmese military committed tortures and sexual violence on a group of around 30 women on December 12 morning as the military conducted raids on the Rohingya village amidst the visit of the Investigation Commission formed by the Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw.

Of them, 15 Rohingya women were molested and tortured extremely brutally. 2 minor girls (who are sisters) and a mother of 3 children were singled out and GANG-RAPED, according to a statement given by Ms. SS (not real name), a victim woman beaten and molested by the military.

The raped victims are:

  • RH (15), d/o NI
  • SA (13), d/o NI

Ms. SS said “they beat us with bamboos and rods; put their hands all over bodies. We were treated like animals.”
