KUALA LUMPUR — On the solemn occasion of Rohingya Genocide Remembrance Day, the Myanmar Ethnic Human Rights Organization in Malaysia (MERHROM) has issued a powerful call to action, urging the global community to unite in putting an end to the ongoing Rohingya genocide.

This day serves as a stark reminder of the international community’s collective failure to prevent and halt the tragic events that unfolded in Myanmar, and MERHROM seeks to transform this historical negligence into an urgent resolve for change.

For decades, the Rohingya population has faced unspeakable atrocities, including murder, rape, torture, and forced displacement, which have left an indelible scar on the Rohingya community.

Despite escaping Myanmar, the survivors continue to endure the harrowing impacts of the genocide, both in overcrowded refugee camps in Bangladesh and during their perilous journeys seeking safety and protection in other countries.

MERHROM emphasizes that the August 25th anniversary is not just a day of remembrance for the Rohingya people alone; it is a day that demands introspection and action from the global community.

This anniversary symbolizes the failure of humanity to prevent the tragedy and highlights the urgent need for international collaboration to address the ongoing crisis.

The organization unreservedly condemns the Myanmar military junta for orchestrating the genocide and emphasizes the vital importance of holding the perpetrators accountable for their heinous crimes.

MERHROM passionately appeals to the United Nations, United States of America, European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, ASEAN, Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and civil society organizations to escalate the pressure on the Myanmar junta.

A key demand is to cease any arms trading that supports the junta’s violent actions.

MERHROM underscores that humanitarian aid, while crucial, cannot fully compensate for the lives lost and the irreversible suffering endured by the Rohingya community.

The organization calls on the United Nations to ensure food security and sovereignty for refugees across the globe, especially those in Cox’s Bazar refugee camps.

Additionally, MERHROM demands swift action from the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice to expedite the legal processes against Myanmar’s military leaders responsible for the genocide.

The organization envisions these efforts as instrumental in not only stopping the ongoing violence but also ensuring the protection and safety of the Rohingya population within Myanmar.

The organization’s plea extends to preventing forced repatriation of Rohingya refugees back to Myanmar. MERHROM underscores that this action would further persecute an already vulnerable population and expose them to human trafficking networks, exacerbating their plight.

MERHROM implores the world to heed their call for immediate action to halt the ongoing Rohingya genocide.

The organization appeals to global leaders, human rights advocates, and citizens worldwide to unite in support of this crucial cause and save innocent lives.

On this solemn day, MERHROM’s message resounds: the time to end the Rohingya genocide is now.
